While the candidates in fray are out in the open abusing each other never seen before to make a mark to woo the voters, a motley crew of a few students of the Dept. of Mass Communication, Asian Institute of Management and Technology, Guwahati, today took out an awareness campaign and street plays to appeal to the young voters to vote responsibly and make a change for a better tomorrow.
The students who themselves remain glued to the various media channels as part of their course curriculum, took to the streets today displaying posters, placards and banners which ranged from “Your Vote Your Voice” to “If you don’t vote, don’t complain”, making clear the intention and aspirations of these youths.
The students also displayed streets plays and nukkad nataks in front of Guwahati Commerce College and Cotton College to reach out to the prospective students who would probably cast their vote for the first time.
“We want a stable and corruption free government which can make India a better place to live in as well as shape our future” informed one student.
The total number of voters in Assam this time round is 1,87,22,435 while among these 6,53,718 will exercise their votes for the first time. One third of the voters of Assam are aged between 20 to 29 years which makes it more interesting as these youths would determine the results of the grand finale - mandate 2014.
The awareness campaign program held today was initiated by the Department of Mass Communication, AIMT.
