 Security forces from the 16 Bn SSB apprehended a cadre of Songbijit fraction NDFB identified as Sanjib Basumatary, 28, from Nutun Basti in Chirang district bordering Bhutan late last evening.

One 7.65 mm pistol, 5 live round live ammunition, 1 magazine, 3 mobile, 4 SIM card, Rs. 5260 was recovered from him.

NDFB killed

A hardcore cadre of NDFB(Songbijit faction) identified as Nijwm Basumatry was killed in an encounter with security forces at Pepsu Road along India-Bhutan border under Kachugaon police station  late last night in Kokrajhar district.Police said that security forces belonging to Assam police and army conducted an operation in Pepu area under Kachugaon police station in Gossaigon sub-division in the district of Kokrajhar late last night where an exchange of fire was held and a NDFB cadre died on the spot.Police recovered,  one 9 mm pistol and grenade from slain militant cadre.

2 nomination papers rejected in Kokrajhar

The nomination of Salkan Murmu of Jharkhand Disom Party (JDP) and Haricharan Basumatary (Independent) found invalid and rejected during scrutiny in No. 5 Kokrajhar  Lok Sabha (ST) constituency. Kokrajhar DC and Returning Officer Nitin Khade said the nomination of Murmu and Basumatary were rejected.A total of nine candidates have filed nomination, of which seven found valid to contest in the ensuing election from Kokrajhar HPC.Kokrajhar Lok Sabha Constituency, the election to which is on April 24. The date of withdrawal is Wednesday (April 9). 

Price of religious conversion

Mother dies in Kokrajhar

16 injured in mishap

As many as 16 persons sustained injures when a bus met road mishap this morning near Champa ridge in Kokrajhar district.According to source, a bus bearing registration AS-15C-0322 was carrying supporters of Lok Sabha MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary coming from Baksa to attend nomination fielding at DC office in Kokrajhar. The bus meets mishap due to control of speedy on the 31(C) national highway.The injures were rushed to Kokrajhar Rup Nath Brahma civil hospital.
