 Security forces from the 16 Bn SSB apprehended a cadre of Songbijit fraction NDFB identified as Sanjib Basumatary, 28, from Nutun Basti in Chirang district bordering Bhutan late last evening.

One 7.65 mm pistol, 5 live round live ammunition, 1 magazine, 3 mobile, 4 SIM card, Rs. 5260 was recovered from him.

BTAD toll goes up to 12

BTAD areas seem to have embroiled in a fresh string of murder and mayhem. Journalist attacked

Journalist Dhananjoy Nath, staff reporter of Dainik Janasadaran and Secretary of Kokrajhar Press Club  was attacked by the unidentified miscreant on Thursday evening around 7.15 pm. when he was on his way from Kokrajhar Tiniali to Bhutiyapara, his home. Nath said that two motorcycles borne miscreants tried  to kidnap him showing a pistol. BTAD burning again: 3 killed

Bullets seem to have riddled BTAD again. In a fresh orgy of violence, unidentified miscreants shot dead three of a family and four others including a journalist were shot at in BTAD areas on Thursday.The first incident took place at Ananda Bazar in Baska in the evening when four bicycle born armed miscreants started indiscriminate firing at the house of a religious minority family where three died on the spot. Bear cubs return to wild

Three orphaned Asiatic black bears cubs (Ursus thibetanus) were moved into the wild in Manas National Park on Thursday in Baksa district. The cubs were found alone in Mayanpara, Siyalmara and Kumarikhata villages in the fringes of the UNESCO World Heritage in December last year. With their mothers presumably killed, the cubs had been restrained and handed over to the Forest Department and IFAW-WTI for care and rehabilitation.IFAW-WTI has rehabilitated 31 Asiatic black bear cubs in the northeast Indian states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh till date. NDFB-S calls fake encounter

The National Democratic Front of Boroland (Songbijit faction) termed the killing of Saolun Daimary a fake encounter, that killed at Asrabari under Mazbat in Udalguri district on Tuesday, a press release from B Saoraigwra, general secretary of the NDFB claims. Police's claim of recovering huge cache of arms - one pistol, one hand grenade, ammunitions, 3 cartridges, one magazine is baseless and fake. Woman dies at 101

A 101-year-old woman died in Kokrajhar leaving behind a pall of gloom in the entire district on Tuesday.She was none other than Saoni Basumatary, popularly known as Durmao who breathed her last in the morning at her own residence in Kanthalguri village in the district.Her family members told Assam Times that the end came at 8-30 in the morning because of her brief ailment.Beside being a village headwoman and she was associated with a number of social activities. Even on April 24 she exercised her franchise at Bechimari polling centre in Kokrajhar.People of all walks of life condoled her death and prayed for eternal peace of her departed soul.
