Kirip, Madhab file nominations

Mongoldoi AGP candidate Madhab Rajbanshi and his Congress counterpart Kirip Chaliha filed their nominations to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls slated for April 24.

Accompanied by senior party leaders Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma along with over 500 supporters, Chaliha reached the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises in Mongoldoi at 2 in the afternoon where he filed his nomination papers before the returning officer.

Hours after that AGP candidate Madhab Rajbanshi reached the DC office premises with a huge number of partymen. Then he filed his nomination papers before the authorities.

The election in this third phase will take place on April 24 in Mongoldoi along with Barpeta, Dhubri, Nagaon, Kokrajhar and Guwahati.

The United Liberation Front of Assam (I) handed down the death penalty to two of its cadres for their alleged involvement with espionage. Guwahati: The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) has alleged a nefarious conspiracy by police and the army to crush their spine, engaging a section of youths who were dispatched to the jungles to join the rebel outfit. The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has refuted reports that some more leaders would soon desert the party. According to some reports, among others,  former minister and MP Prodyut Bordoloi, former minister and MLA Rockeybool Hussain, and former minister Bismita Gogoi would quit the party at any time.
