Congress will retain Assam to keeps BJP and AIUDF at bay if pre poll surveys are any indication.
According to Lokniti, CSDS-IBN-National Election Tracker pre-poll survey, the Narendra Modi magic will have hardly any impact on the ruling party’s poll prospect.
The survey conducted in March indicates that Congress is way ahead of others, including the BJP. The ruling party’s preference stands at 44 percent---ahead of its closest rival BJP which got just 19 per cent.
The AGP is in dire-strains, Modi magic is ineffective and the sinking popularity of AIUDF have left the field open for the Congress to thrive. According to the survey, “the position of the BJP and AGP is so poor that even if the two had combined, they could not have dented the Congress much.”
The survey polled 798 voters in March and 462 in January. While 44 percent vouched for the Congress in the rural area against BJP's 16 percent, in urban areas the BJP, with 37 percent support, is a lot closer to the ruling party's 47 percent.
“In this background, it is not very surprising to find that 40 percent of the voters want the UPA to retain power. It must be mentioned here that the figure was 59 percent when the poll was last conducted in January this year.”
