Waiting for Rahul Gandhi

Amid a massive security arrangement, people thronging in thousands in Biswanath Chariali to attend Rahul Gandhi’s rally on Monday.

Security forces are fanning across the district to thwart any move by NDFB-S militants to disrupt Gandhi’s poll rally to campaign for Tezpur party candidate Bhupen Bora.

Senior party leaders told Assam Times that security forces are guarding hundreds of buses deployed by the party to ferry people to the rally at the Kamala Kanta Khetra.

Gandhi is scheduled to arrive in Tezpur at 11 in the morning. Then he would straightly leave for Biswanath Charilai to hold the rally. He would fly to Dibrugarh at 1-30 in the afternoon.      

Massive security arrangement is required in the entire district in view of NDFB-S militants’ 12 hour bandh to oppose Rahul Gandhi’s visit.

Rahul's rally in Assam is equally important. He has been strength of congress party and he has given its party a breakthrough. His efforts were transformed into actions.

One can see that Rahul Gandhi's popularity is rising day by day. He is very much popular among the young generation and also among the people at the grassroot level. He is putting good efforts in reaching out to people.

Rhino poaching again

Rhino poaching strikes again in Kaziranga. Poachers have killed a full grown female rhino on Friday night. This time poachers have struck at the Burapahar range of the national park.The carcass was found on Saturday morning. The horn is missing. Forest guards are spreading tentacles to nab the poachers inside the park.     The strike took place hours after police nabbed three people in Bokajan on their way back from Dimpaur after selling rhino horn. A huge amount of Rs 23 lakhs were seized from their possession.  

Umrangsu bodies identified

Police have identified the two youths a day after they died in the explosion in Umrangsu on their way to Guwahati with explosives inside their car on Friday.Police sources confirmed that the duo were Sahabuddin and Ainuddin. Sahabuddin was engaged in a coal mine in Meghalaya.   Both they were believed to have carried explosives to Guwahati at the instance of ULFA-I in the run to the Republic Day celebration.

Rs 5 lakh looted in Dispur

The much-hyped watertight security in the run up to the Republic Day futile when armed youths looted a huge amount of rupees at gunpoint from in Dispur on Friday.The incident took place in the evening in front of the state secretariat when two armed youths halted a car and looted Rs 5 lakh from a person on his way back to home after withdrawing the amount from Dispur SBI branch.Policemen on duty came to the spot. But by then the armed youths managed to escape.  

Case against KMSS move

A city based businessmen on Friday moved police against Akhil Gogoi and his organization a day after they forcibly occupied a huge plot of 35 bighas in Khetri alleging efforts to transfer of cultivable land to industrial purpose.Businessman Ramavtar Agarwallah on Friday FIR against Gogoi and KMSS with Khetri police station bearing No 12/ 14. He alleged that KMSS  is trying to occupy his plot at any time hardly a week after he served ultimatum to leave their plots---transferred for industrial purpose.

Phensidyle seized in Guwahati

Guwahati has still been a safe transit route for drug smugglers. Railway police and narcotic department sleuths have seized around 112 bottles of phensidyle from Paltanbazar on Friday.These consignment was put in three boxes to be sent to Agartala by train. Two youths have been arrested after these incriminating materials were seized from their possession.

Guwahati bound bomb exlpodes

Guwahati got rid of yet another explosion. Two hardcore ULFA linkmen are believed to have killed in an explosion that took place inside a vehicle carrying them in Karbi Anglong on Friday.The incident took place at Seventh Mile area in Umrangsu when the linkmen duo were believed to have been carrying explosives to Guwahati. The duo were killed on the spot when the bomb went off suddenly.The vehicle remained mangled. The face of the bodies were left beyond recognition. Top ranked reached the spot. Security forces are fanning in and around the area to trace the point where the explosives were carried.     

Car blast kills 2

Two persons were killed when a car carrying them exploded in Karbi Anglong district on Friday.The car explosion took place at Seventh Mile area near Umrangsu when the duo were believed to have been carrying the explosives which went off suddenly.The vehicle remained mangled and the duo inside the car died on the spot. Top ranked reached the spot. Security forces are fanning in and around the area to trace the point where the explosives were carried.

Grenade found in Dhekiajuli

Amid stepped up security measures ahead of the Republic Day, a major tragedy averted in Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district when security forces defused a powerful grenade on Friday.The handgrenade was found lying inside a bag just behind the Dhekiajuli ASTC bus stand in the morning. On seeing the suspicious object, the bag was handed over to the police who later confirmed it a hand grenade. Later it was defused.

AGP-BJP pact again!

The Asom Gana Parishad is in a mood to forge a pre poll alliance with BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Led by its president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, an AGP delegation is camping in New Delhi to explore the possibility of forging the alliance.
