UPPL-led coalition clear floor test

Kokrajhar: Belaying all uncertainties the UPPL-led alliance has cleared the floor test in the Boroland Autonomous Council in Kokrajhar on Thursday. Pramod Boro was confirmed as the Chief Executive Member on the floor a couple of days after the Gauhati High Court asked UPPL-BJP-GSP coalition to prove the might on the floor.

The crucial day long session of BTC started with an uproar scene where the pro tem Speaker was administering oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected members. BPF member alleged anomalies in the oath taking proceeding and criticised the UPPL, BJP and GSP members forcing the chair to adjourn the session for 30 minutes.

Twelve UPPL members along with 11 BJP and lone GSP members cleared the floor test rejecting BPF’s demand for floor test only on the secret ballot system.

Acting on a writ petition moved by BPF, the Gauhati High Court asked UPP-BJP-GSP coalition to clear the floor test and to ensure the election of Pramod Boro as Chief Executive Member.

The elected members of the ruling coalition who were confined to hotels in Shillong and Guwahati reached Kokrajhar only at 9 in the morning and were straightly taken to the BTC House for floor test.

UPPL got 12 seats, BJP 9, BPF 17, Congress got 1 and GSP 1. The lone Congress member joined BJP along with another BPF elected member while UPPL, BJP and GSP formed the coalition and Boro took oath on December 15.
