Tarun Gogoi dead

Guwahati: Veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is dead. He passed away in the evening at Guwahati Medical College Hospital where he was undergoing treatment of post COVID complications.

His condition deteriorated on Saturday as his organs did not properly respond to the line of treatment.

An anti corruption unit of Assam police grilled Gautom Roy on Monday in connection with the Rs 2000 crore scam in the social welfare department during the erstwhile Tarun Gogoi government.As directed, the former social welfare minister reached the anti corruption and vigilance cell office in Rupnagar at 10 in the morning to be grilled by a team of officers for a couple of hours.Roy was summoned a week after the team grilled Akon Bora, who was social welfare minister when the multi crore scam took place.

Assam legislative assembly got underway in Dispur amid a story note on Monday. Opposition Congress and AIUDF did not allow governor Banwarilal Purohit to complete his speech to mark the start of the session which will end in March. Union surface transport minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday announced 1253 km in the National Highway in a bid to bridge the yawning communication gap of Assam with the rest of the country.
