Guwahati: In a move that could impede AGP’s poll prospect, the Asom Gana Parishad is contemplating swapping a number of seats with BJP putting the political career of a few party architects in dire trouble.
According to sources, BJP, the main ruling coalition partner has agreed to take over Barhampur much to the disappointment of the founder president and two-term Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. If it so happens, Mahanta will no longer be the AGP candidate from his home turf.
Same it is going to happen in case of Brindabon Goswami who won't be able to contest again from Tezpur since BJP will contest from his home constituency. Other constituencies include
Pattacharkuchi, Lakhimpur,Naharkotiya and West Guwahati.
In fact, the party is trying to sideline the MLAs who have been directly and indirectly opposing the leadership. BJP is also planning to disallow around 20 sitting MLAs from contesting afresh in 2021 and this will make way for AGP to contest.
