Rajiv Gandhi University to introduce CBCS in Under-Graduate Level

A meeting on implementation of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) was held by Rajiv Gandhi University on 25th February 2021 in a blended mode. The stake-holders - the Principals of affiliated colleges, the officers of Directorate of Higher and Technical Education and the members of Core Committee of the CBCS implementation have participated.

Introducing the meeting, Dr. N.T. Rikam, Registrar, RGU spelt out the mandate of the UGC and Ministry of Education, Government of India for implementation of CBCS in all the higher educational institutions across the country. 

The process for implementation of CBCS in Rajiv Gandhi University has been halted due to COVID-19 pandemic but now situation is since improving, we have to run fast to implement the CBCS right from the next academic session.

He sought cooperation from the stakeholder – the principals, faculty members and especially from the Department of Higher and Technical Education and Managements in mitigating the emanating problems of manpower and infrastructure facilities in the colleges. That is why this meeting has been convened to educate on the CBCS.

In his message, the Vice-Chancellor, RGU, Prof. Saket Kushwaha who is on official tour extend his best wishes for fruitful and meaningful deliberations and expressed his firm belief that the CBCS will be implemented at the husting because we have to move at par with the rest of the country  in the quest for excellence in education system.

Prof. Amitava Mitra, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Core Committee on implementation of CBCS, vividly explains the modus operandi of CBCS through Power Point Presentation. He spelt out that CBCS is moving from Teacher Centric Education to Student Centric Education. The student will have more choice or freedom of opting courses/disciplines in compare to present mode of education.

He also informed the august gathering that the process for implementation has already been started and a series of exercises - including workshop/orientation on CBCS are being planned to be organised.

In his address Dr. Tayek Talom, Director, Higher and Technical Education has appreciated the move of RGU to implement the CBCS in the under-graduate level. There may be issue/problems on the ground but every problem has some solutions and he assured that the department will try its best to address those issues including manpower and infrastructure in the colleges.

All the Principals have welcomed the initiative of the University and assured to implement the CBCS in the colleges. However, most of them raised the issue of manpower and infrastructure which need to be addressed for the effective implementation of the system.

In his concluding remarks Prof. A. Mitra, Chairman, expressed his optimism that the CBCS will be implemented from the next academic session. The official communication/notification for implementation of CBCS will be issued in due course of time.

Dr. David Pertin, Joint Registrar (Aca.) extended the vote of thanks with a remark that such meeting will be convened very often on the implementation of CBCS and thanks everyone for the participation.

Five persons died and four others sustained serious injury when the vehicle carrying them skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday. The tragic accident took place in the wee hours in between Palizi and Ramda in West Kameng district where the vehicle carrying at least nine people was going to Seppa. Eyewitnesses told reporters that the vehicle was negotiating a sharp bend before it slipped into a deep gorge where five persons died on the spot.
