Guwahati: Altogether 70 local organizations who have been dead opposed to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 floated a new regional political party with a vow to whitewash BJP and it's allies in the 2021 assembly polls.
Named as Raijor Dal( Peoples'Party), it was announced at a largely attended ceremony presided over by award winning film maker Jahnu Barua, who also is one of the leaders of Sangyukta Anchalik Dallas.
In his opening speech, Barua said that the various regional parties should remain united to save the state and it's people from the edge.
"We have seen the unity of these organization which needs to be galvanized into a force that can protect Assam-its identity and culture," said Baruah.
The new party is preparing pitch in the prepoll political landscape by intensifying anti CAA, and anti-EIA protest apart from mounting pressure on the government to ensure release of Akhil Gogoi.
Notably, despite repeated appeal All Assam Students Union and AJYCP did not join the venture and launched AJP. Then the peasant body cobbled support from as many as 70 small organizations to float a new party which was born on Friday.

Army has been deployed and indefinite curfew clamped on Saturday in the silk town Sualkuchi in Kamrup (Rural) district following protests against use of artificial silk during which 10 persons were injured in police firing.The district administration called in the army after imposing the prohibitory orders under section 144 Cr P C from 2 pm to contain a second day of protests by weavers who called a 12-hour bandh.Personnel of the Army's Punjab Regiment were patrolling the town along with police and paramilitary forces.
Several persons have been injured when security forces sprang upon a group of people in Sualkuchi who took to the streets against the sale of Banaras-made silk cloths. The killing of Gangaram Kaul seems to have drawn protest across the state. Workers in Guwahati staged protest demanding justice to the victim’s family. Locals in Barpeta area preferred the use of organic colours and urged people to not waste water on the day. Dances processions were taken out on the roads by the locals to celebrate the festival. Dispur is waiting for Anup Cheita’s extradition to boost the peace process with ULFA.In his response to a question on ULFA-government process, minister Rockybul Hussian on behalf of the home department informed the House on Monday that process was on to bring the jailed ULFA general secretary back from Bangladesh. He said that altogether 12 insurgent outfits operating in Assam have agreed to strike peace deal with the government.
The rhino census is set to end on Monday. The two-day exercise is being conducted in all the five ranges of the park — Kohora, Bagori, Burapahar, Agoratoli and Biswanathghat. More than 250 personnel from the state forest department, NGOs and media groups have been engaged in the operation.The headcount of rhinos in Kaziranga is a regular practice and is conducted to implement a fruitful conservation method. For the census operation, the park has been divided into two parts and 81 blocks. The remaining part on the northern bank of the Difolu, including the chapori areas of the Brahmaputra, is being covered on Monday.
Despite round-of-the-clock vigil, rhino poaching refuses to die down in Kaziranga. Poachers in the famed national park killed one more rhino on Saturday and the hornless body was rescued in the wee hours at Burapahar range of the world heritage site.The incodent took place hardly 24 hours after the hornless carcass of a rhino was found in the national park.
