Raijor Dal on the doorstep

Guwahati: Altogether 70 local organizations who have been dead opposed to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act,  2019 floated a new regional political party with a vow to whitewash BJP and it's allies in the 2021 assembly polls.

Named as Raijor Dal( Peoples'Party), it was announced at a largely attended ceremony presided over by award winning film maker Jahnu Barua,  who also is one of the leaders of Sangyukta Anchalik Dallas.

In his opening speech, Barua said that the various regional parties should remain united to save the state and it's people from the edge.

"We have seen the unity of these organization which needs to be galvanized into a force that can protect Assam-its identity and culture," said Baruah.

The new party is preparing pitch in the prepoll political landscape by intensifying anti CAA, and anti-EIA protest apart from mounting pressure on the government to ensure release   of Akhil Gogoi.

Notably,  despite repeated appeal All Assam Students Union and AJYCP did not join the venture and launched AJP. Then the peasant body cobbled support from as many as 70 small organizations to float a new party which was born on Friday.

This is copied from a netigen from Assam clarifying the protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019 (CAB). Ever since the CAB is passed in Lok Sabha, massive protests erupted all over the state of Assam. Non-Assamese people, living outside Assam, are confused as to why are they protesting? Is it their love for secularism or is it a left liberal agenda, sponsored by external agencies? Are they generally protest-happy folks without jobs or there are genuine concerns that we, non-Assamese people, don’t understand? Let me clarify it. We are not protesting against CAB because we are a bunch of left liberal pseudo-seculars who are unhappy because persecuted Muslims are...

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill passed by the Indian Parliament legitimises discrimination on the basis of religion and stands in clear violation of the Constitution of India and international human rights law, Amnesty India said in a press communication. It amends the Citizenship Act of 1955 to enable irregular migrants to acquire Indian citizenship through naturalisation and registration. However, it restricts the eligibility to only Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan who entered India on or before 31 December 2014.
