Guwahati: A big blow awaits Congress 4 months ahead of the assembly polls leaving the grand old party in dire-straits. Senior leader and 4 time legislator from Golaghat Ajanta Neog is set to join BJP.
Neog, who called on Chief Minister at the latter’s official residence is expected to join BJP on December 26 when Union home minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit the state.
Same it is expected in Roseline Tirkey. The Congress MLA from Sarupathar recently visited the local BJP office fuelling the speculations are she is likely to join the ruling party.
Congress MLA from Lakhipathar in Barak Valley Rajdwip Goala is also formally joining the ruling party. The opposition party has already expelled Goala alleging his involvement in the anti party activites.

Police constable Abhijit Baruah once again makes Assam proud when set new record of hitting the highest number of punches in a minute on the boxing pad on Thursday.The 23-year-old cop hit 387 punches in Delhi to break the record he himself set a couple of moths ago in Jorhat. The Centre has raised the margin money for khadi and village industries from Rs 66 cr to Rs 100 cr for the next financial year 2013-2014.This was confirmed by none other than Union Minister of State for MSME (Independent) KH Muniyappa in Guwahati. Renowned vaishnavite veteran Sonaram Chutia passed away after a brief ailment on Wednesday. Chutia died at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital at 9.15 in the evening. Karimganj police on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of a youth for torturing a five-year-old girl. The five-year-old girl, who went missing on January 28 evening, was found lying in a paddy field with severe injuries near her house at Pinnagar village on January 29. Her father alleged that she was raped by the youth, who was arrested by the police on the basis of the allegation. But the youth claimed that he was asked by the girl's father to take her home but she entered a wedding function on the way and went missing from there. Barring a few stray incidents polling for the first phase of panchayat election are over registering a huge turn out in 8 districts on Wednesday.The polling began at 7 in the morning and ended at 3 in the afternoon where 28,680 candidates are in the fray in eight districts. Among them, 643 have contested for the post of zilla parishad member, 2,801 for anchalik panchayat member, 3,099 for gaon panchayat president's post and 22,137.The first phase include Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Kaliabor, Nagaon Sadar, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts.
