Congress opposes Madrassa closure move

Guwahati: The BJP-led government's move to close down around 1200 Madrassas hits a major hurdle with Congress vehemently opposing it.

State Congress president Ripun Bora said that the party/s position was very clear and that they will keep opposing the move.

Bora further called the decision unconstitutional and that the government cant take such a decision in a secular country.

Notably, education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that the government owned Madrassas would be closed down from November.
