Asom Jatiya Parishad is born

Guwahati: Finally, AASU and AJYCP have announced new regional party 6 months ahead of assembly polls. A day after a brainstorming session of the two influential student and youth organizations conveners Basanta Deka and Krishnagopal Bhattacharya said that the new party would be named as Asom Jatiya Party (AJP).

They said that the organizational activities have started in the various district and sub divisional levels. “However, they will hold a political convention in October-end to be a full fledged regional political party by November. Jagdish has agreed to be the main convener of the new political party,” said the student leaders.           

Leaders of All Assam Students Union and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad held a closed door meeting in Guwahati on Sunday to finalize the political strategies. AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi dropped hint of possibility of patch up with peasant body (KMSS –led by Akhil Gogoi).

Gogoi urged all forces to retain the character of regionalism and not to compound the issue by focusing any pre condition at this juncture. He further made it clear that the proposed regional party will maintain equidistance from both UPA and NDA.
