3 more autonomous councils coming up

Guwahati: Sensing backlash in the upcoming assembly polls because its failure to ensure ST status for 6 ethnic communities, the Assam Government has announced three autonomous councils for 3 ethnic communities.

State minister Chandan Brahma moved a bill for autonomous councils for Muttock, Moran and Koch Rajbanshi people which the assembly passed on Thursday.

But the government, according to sources, is contemplating to appease the Ahom, Adivashi and Chutiya people since they were desperately struggling for ST status.
