World Blood Donor Day celebrated at Golaghat
World Blood Donor Day is celebrated on June 14th every year. It is an opportunity to express gratitude to those who donate their blood in order to save lives, without expecting anything in return. However, the overwhelming majority of the world’s population do not have access to safe blood. Over 80 million units of blood are donated every year, but only 38% are collected in developing countries where 82% of the global population live. The theme for World Blood Donor Day 2011 is, "More blood. More life." The launch of World Blood Donor Day took place on 14 June 2004 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Golaghat Dist. Health Department and Golaghat Civil Hospital Blood Bank, today along with the rest of the world also observe World Blood Donor Day in the conference hall of Golaghat Civil Hospital Nurse Training Centre’s Conference room. On the occasion, Country Women Association of India Golaghat unit, GTFS Multi Service Jorhat, Marwari Yuva Mancha Bokakhat and Borpathar Martial Arts Academy were felicitated and given a certificate as they share the honour of being the highest blood donor in the district last year. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Harish Chandra Dutta, ADC, Golaghat.
