USTM concludes workshop on academic writing and scholarly publishing
GUWAHATI, October 1, 2026 — The Department of Applied Biology, University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM), in association with the Microbiologists Society, India (MBSI) and the Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS), concluded International Microorganisms Day 2026 and a national workshop on “Academic Writing and Scholarly Publications” on Thursday.
The programme, held from September 17, focused on strengthening academic writing, research communication and scholarly publishing skills among Master’s students, research scholars and early-career researchers.
USTM Vice Chancellor Prof G D Sharma inaugurated the programme. Prof Kumananda Tayung, Dean, Faculty of Sciences, Gauhati University, and Dr Niraj Singh, State President, MBSI (Assam & Meghalaya), attended as Chief Guest-cum-Resource Person and Guest of Honour respectively.
Experts from India and Saudi Arabia conducted sessions on scientific writing, manuscript preparation, publication ethics, scholarly communication and journal selection. Participants from USTM, The Assam Royal Global University and Cotton University attended the programme.
A Poster and Model Competition was also organised, with prizes distributed to the winners.
The programme was organised under the chairpersonship of Dr Sony Kumari, Head, Department of Applied Biology, with Dr Yugal Kishore Mohanta as Convener and Dr Tamanna Bhuyan as coordinator.
