Steps on to select new governor

The Centre is considering the names of five veteran political leaders to replace JB Patnaik as Assam governor whose tenure ends on Wednesday.

The name is yet to be finalized. Nagaland governor PB Achraya is expected to be given additional charge in the state until further order.  Gauhati High Court chief justice will administer oath of office and secrecy as Assam Governor at a brief function in the Raj Bhawan on Friday.
