Rongmei Community Holds 8th Cultural and Freshers’ Meet in Guwahati
GUWAHATI, October 6, 2026 — The Rongmei community of Guwahati celebrated its 8th Cultural and Freshers’ Meet 2026 (Charuangcakhatni Zawthanh Kariumei, 2026) at the Railway Community Hall, Goshala, Maligaon, on October 2.
Organised under the theme ‘Roots to Relevance’, the event brought together Rongmei residents from across Guwahati and a large number of newly arrived students and freshers.
The programme was attended by Chief Guest Nilmani Brahma, IRSE, Principal Chief Engineer, Northeast Frontier Railway, who addressed the gathering and welcomed the freshers to the Rongmei community in Guwahati.
The event was jointly organised by the Rongmei Phwam, Guwahati (RPG), registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, and the Rongmei Chamnac Phwam Guwahati (RCPG).
The programme showcased the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Rongmei community through cultural songs, traditional dances, traditional attire and the Rongmei anthem. Indigenous cultural performances, including Huai kaucmei and Pazeicmei, were also presented.
The performances highlighted Rongmei cultural identity while promoting a sense of belonging, pride, unity, solidarity and community spirit among participants.
Special guest artistes Pouh Mathiuhuam Kamei and TR Ganh & the Band entertained the audience with musical performances. The programme also featured a Talent Hunt and the selection of Mr and Ms Fresher 2026.
The organisers said the annual gathering aims to provide a platform for the Rongmei community to preserve and celebrate its cultural heritage while welcoming young people joining the community in Guwahati.
