PM’s visit proves Congress indifference towards Assam: Sonowal
The main opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has said the Congress enthusiasm for the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's recent visit is a meaningless one. The regional party has observed it a a "total failure" as it had nothing to prevail on the burning issues of the state.
Talking to reporters on Wednesday, AGP MP Sarbananda Sonowal said the so called among the Congress party over the visit is misplaced as the Prime Minister touched no major issues faced by the state. He said the "so called package" was just to save the face .
The Dibrugarh MP said the Prime Minister failed to announce anything substantial on how to tackle the large scale infiltration from Bangladesh and the recent reaction from various organisations in the state over the issue. “This is how it remains to be seen how the Congress does not want to harm its vote bank", Sonowal said.
“Dr Singh, had also managed to ignore the issue of border fencing and the ULFA problem. The UPA government it seems is compromising on unity and integrity by ignoring the threat posed by fundamentalist forces in the country", said the AGP leader.
