PCPIA demands release of Lachit Nekibur

The Peoples Committee for Peace Initiative in Assam has sponsored a statewide dharna on Wednesday demanding immediate release of human rights activist and PCG member Lachit Bordoloi with noted lawyer Nekibur Zaman. Along with other parts of the state, people in hundreds thronged beside Dighaipukhuri in Guwahati demanding release of Lachit Bordoloi and Nekibur Zaman. Several PCPIA leaders also join the protestors and condemned the arrest. They said it will further compound the peace process. PCG member Mukul Mahanta said the arrest of Zaman and Bordoloi is a government conspiracy. Former Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University Dr Debaprasad Barooah also said it a conspiracy adding that the Government is answerable before the people for these activities. Veteran journalist and PCG member Ajit Kumar Bhuyan said that these activities are enough to prove the government’s lack of interest for carry forwarding the peace process.
