NFNE condemns killing of journalist in Hojai

National Federation of Newspaper Employees (India) has expressed shock and dismay at the brutal killing of a freelance journalist based in Hojai, Assam on September 4 (Saturday). Bimala Prasad Talukder, 70, was killed by miscreants at Rampur under Hojai police station in Nagaon district and his wounded body was found by 9 pm, reported the Guwahati based satellite news channels. NFNE secretary (eastern zone) Nava Thakuria has condemned the killing and demanded a high level enquiry into the incident. He added, “We have been forced to add another name in the list of over 20 journalist-victims, whom we lost in the last two decades in Assam.” Talukder, also known as a social worker, fought Lok Sabha election in 2009 from Nagaon parliamentary constituency as an independent candidate.
