Nazira Mosque Youth Feed Flood Victims Across Communities

Amid the devastating floods triggered by the overflowing Dikhow River, a remarkable example of communal harmony has emerged from Nazira's Amulapatti area, where the youth wing of the Purana Masjid has been providing relief to flood-affected families regardless of religion or community.

The floods, among the worst in the region's recent history, have displaced thousands, leaving families without homes, food and essential belongings. People from Hindu, Muslim, Jain, Christian, Sikh, Naga, Bodo, Rabha and other communities have been affected.

In response, the Nazira Amulapatti Purana Masjid Youth Committee (Deka Jamat) has organised relief efforts under the leadership of its president, Iltaf Ali, and secretary, Mahbubur Rashid. For the past three days, volunteers have been serving two cooked meals daily and distributing clothing to flood victims.

Relief is being provided along the Dikhow embankment near the Purana Masjid, where many displaced families have taken shelter after being forced to flee their inundated homes.

The initiative has drawn appreciation from local residents, particularly at a time when concerns have been raised over the adequacy and reach of official relief efforts. People from different communities have gathered at the relief camp, reflecting a spirit of solidarity in the face of disaster.

Flood victims expressed gratitude to the volunteers, saying the assistance had helped them cope with the hardships of the flood and offered hope during an exceptionally difficult time.
