International Youth day in Kokrajhar
Concern over the increase of human trafficking from the region, Nedan Foundation, a Kokrajhar based NGO, is taking the issue among the youths.
Hundreds of youths from various institutions- school, colleges and university from Kokrajhar district participated in the International Youth day celebration today organised by NGO, with the theme "Youth Against Human Trafficking" held a Kokrajhar Science College auditorium in Kokrajhar.
Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner MP Sarma attended and inaugurated the programme by lighting the inaugural lamp,in presence of Superintendent of Police, Kokrajhar Shyamal Prasad Saikia.
Sarma spoke about the importance of celebration of International Youth Day and how youth can play an important role in solving various social evils of the society. He called upon the youth to reach out to all corners so that each individual become aware of the trafficking issues.
Superintendent of Police, Saikia also spoke dwelling on the role of the youths in combating the social evil in the society. He said the youth can change the face of the society for the better.
Digamber Narzary, Chairman of Nedan Foundation gave a brief scenario and ratio of Trafficking realities in Assam and especially how girl child often become the victims of human trafficking.
He said that the youth has a very important role to play in curbing the rising social evil of human trafficking.
He said that the detrimental impact of human trafficking goes beyond individuals and also affects families, communities and countries.
Various cultural programme showing the culture, traditions of various communities of the region were also showcase by the participants.
