Gaurav Gogoi Seeks Central Expert Team as Upper Assam Flood Crisis Deepens

GUWAHATI, July 23, 2026 — Assam Congress president and Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi on Thursday urged the Centre to immediately deploy a team of technical experts to assist flood-ravaged communities in Upper Assam, alleging serious gaps in relief delivery and rehabilitation efforts.

Following a visit to the worst-affected districts of Jorhat, Sivasagar and Charaideo, Gogoi described the situation as an "epic humanitarian crisis," claiming that 41 people had died in the floods while many others remained missing. He said thousands of families had been rendered homeless and lakhs of people were struggling to survive in difficult conditions.

Gogoi said his visit revealed extensive damage and inadequate administrative support. He alleged that the distribution of emergency rations, safe drinking water, disinfectants, clothing and other essential relief materials had been severely delayed.

He appealed to the Central government to send a delegation of technical experts equipped to help affected families rebuild homes and restore agricultural livelihoods. He also demanded that the Assam government provide a transparent account of flood-related deaths and ensure relief reaches every affected household without further delay.

The Congress leader further called upon party workers and office-bearers across Assam to intensify relief efforts and extend all possible assistance to flood-affected villages and families in Upper Assam.
