Former intelligence bureau director P C Halder is likely to be appointed as the government interlocutor to hold talk with ULFA.

According to reliable sources, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday called on Halder and expressed his desire to get him in the post. If everything remains intact, Halder will be the interlocutor for talk with this banned outfit.

In yet another development, noted Assam intellectual Dr Hiren Gohain has faxed his letter afresh on Tuesday seeking an appointment with prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who on Tuesday said he would be happy to meet Dr Gohain. Dr Gohain along with several other prominent citizens have been trying to break the deadlock in terms of the ULFA-Govt talk.
