Constable injured in encounter

A police constable has sustained serious injury at an encounter with Naga miscreants in Karbi Aglong district on Sunday.

The encounter between police and Naga miscreants took place in the wee hours at Lahorijan area along the Assam-Nagaland interstate border where the miscreants from the neighbouring state have been on encroachment spree.

According to information, the heavy gunfight began when the armed miscreants who are believed to have been backed by NSCN militants were trying to encroach upon a plot beyond their territory.

As they came to saw a team of police on their patrolling duty, the miscreants started firing at them forcing the police to retaliate. Police constable R Teron sustained injury in the gunfight which continued for one hour.

Later, the miscreants fled from the spot.
