Blast and after: Eerie silence in Guwahati

An eerie silence is all what grips Guwahati a day after the city was rocked by a string of blast whuch left 5 dead and over 50 injured.

The Centre confirms it a handiwork of ULFA and even police admitted prior information of the strike.

Union home minister P Chidambaram who arrived in the cuty minutes after the serial blast is scheduled to review the staer's law and order situation at a series of meetings with top ranked polic, army and civil officers. The Home minister further will hold talks with the state's three tier unified comand structure.

The crucial meeting will decide the matter of ceasefire with NDFB which was suspected to be behind the October 30 serial blast.

After arriving in the city, the Union home minister visited the Guwahati medical College where the injured people have been undergoing treatment.

Talking to reporters, Chief Minister Gogoi said it's a handiwork of ULFA at the instance of external forces.

Meanwhile, BJP senior leader LK Advani said it is a matter of concern that it happened shortly before Home Minister P Chidambaram's visit to the capital.

In a statement, Advani said, "I strongly condemn the serial bomb blasts in three crowded areas in Guwahati today afternoon. It is a matter of concern that the blasts were set off shortly before the arrival of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in the capital of Assam."

The leader of opposition said the blasts could also have some connection with the victory of Sheikh Hasina Wajed in the Bangladesh elections.

"The Prime Minister-elect of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina Wajed, had stated that her government would not allow terrorist groups to use the territory of Bangladesh to operate in India," Advani said.
