Baihata incident: More a murder, less an encounter

Once again the recent encounter between army and ULFA in Baihata Chariali has mired in controversy.

The ULFA cadre killed in Wednesday night encounter with police in Hindu Moujuli village has been identified as Corporal Mridul Deka alias Mukut Deka, whom Police earlier claimed to have arrested.

According to information, Mridul is a resident of Ghoradag gaon under Harisinga police station in Udalguri district.

According to some specific information, the ULFA cadre was arrested by police from Guwahati’s Fancy Bazar area on November 19 and then he had his Reliance mobile no 98645-85318. He was picked up from Fancy Bazar in the evening, as he was in the city for medical treatment. This evident from medicines and doctor’s prescriptions recovered from his possession.

With this it has been established Mridul, who joined the outfit in 1993 was killed in a fake encounter. It remains to be seen how police comes up with this answer.
