Assam flood fury shows no let-up

Asam’s over all flood situation in Assam remains unchanged on Wednesday as some more areas have come under the surging waters of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries.

Everywhere there is flood waters following the rains during the last 48 hours. The worst hit Majuli, the site of the Vaishnavite culture..it’s more devastating which have rendered thousands of people homeless. The Matmora flood waters entered Borbeel and Samara-aati to wreck havoc for the river island. The Vaishnavite monasteries including Bhugpur, Sarusingha, Samoguri, Borelengi Satra, natun Kamalabari, Bengena-aati Satra, Aaoni-aati, Belsodia have been submerged by flood waters.

According to information, more 165 villages with 1.6 lakh population run the risk of food crisis if the situation remains un changed. Meanwhile the Brahmaputra is still flowing above the danger level at Nimatighat, Komolaghat and Dakshinpaat.

In lower Assam, there is no let up in the situationSome new areas have come under the flood waters that have ravaged a vast cultivable plot in Titkuri, Da-gaon, Kamalpur, Ulta and its adjoining areas. Similarly, flood waters of the river Brahmaputra and its tributaries..Aye, Manas, Champa have wrecked havoc in North Salmara, Abhayapuri in Bongaigaon district.

Flood has damaged cultivation in hundreds of hectares in the district. But the marooned people have yet to see relief and rescue operation for the last three days and some of them are taking shelter at the Panchayat office building and the high school building in the area.
