Army averts IED blast on NH52

The Red Horns Division’s Troops of Kharupetia Army Camp of 315 Field Regiment (KARGIL) averted a major mishap when on a Road Domination Patrol they discovered an IED in the wee hrs of the morning of 03 Apr 2010 near the Tangini bridge,5 Km South of Kharupetia in Darrang dustrict of Assam. The IED was strategically placed to target vehicles and army convoys plying on the National Highway-52. Acting with speed the area was cordoned off and vehicle movement on the National Highway stopped.

The IED was made of RDX and weighed 1 Kg alongwith nails, glass shrapnel and a remote detonation device. Red Horns Division Army Engineers also reached the area swiftly. The IED was effectively neutralised and blasted by the army engineers on the banks of Tangini river. The swift reaction of the army avoided a likely disaster on the busy National Highway-52.The recovery of IED before the ensuing BTC election has been considered to be very significant.
