AAKRSU bandh total

Normal life came to grinding halt in the Koch Rajbanshi dominated areas in the lower Assam districts following the 24 hour statewide bandh demanding SC status.

Called by the All Assam Koch Rajbanshi Students Union,  the bandh started at 6 this morning where roads started remaining desert, shops and markets, schools and colleges, banks and offices remained closed under the impact of the bandh.

In some places the supporters enforced the bandh call by burning tyres on the road. Reports of paralyzing bandh are pouring in from Sonitpur, Darrang, Nagaon and Morigaon districts also.

Hatred Day observed by KMSS in Guwahati

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), activists led by its Secretary Akhil Gogoi, observed a 'Hatred Day' against the alleged rampant corruption in the state by the congress led State Government, at Dispur Last Gate in Guwahati, Assam on 10-01-11.


Search operation on: where is Arunav?

MARGHERITA: A massive search operation by the security forces have been failing to rescue Arunav Phukan three days after the suspected ULFA-I rebels kidnapped the son of a leading businessman from Margherita.

Army, police and para military forces have been concentrating on Khandubasti area along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh interstate border where the rebels were believed to have kidnapped Arunav at gunpoint.

IGP M Agarwalla along with SP MJ Mahanta on Sunday reviewed the combing operations in search of Arunav. No outfit has so far owned up the responsibility. The Phukans have not disclosed to have received any contact from any outfit or individual.

Arunav, the son of Dilip Phukan who owns a stone query was whisked away by suspected ULFA-I rebels as he was on visit to his father's stone query.  

KPLT abducts 4 workers

There is no trace of the four workers a day after KPLT kidnapped them at gunpoint from Kaziranga.        According to information, the Karbi militants kidnapped altogether 11 workes from Kaziranga on their way to lift bamboos with a local trader.              Hours after 7 workers have been released. But thd remaining others are still untraced.  Police operation is in progress.
