The Government decided to hand over the case to the CBI ‘as the seizure is of substantial nature having involvement of inter-state criminals.’ The Government also complied to the Ministry of Home Affairs letter dated May 12, 2002 to the States on FICN which clearly states that the State Government may consider entrusting the investigation to the CBI where there is definite indication that the currency seized is brought from across the border and the seizure has internal security ramifications or the seizure is large.
