Congress resorts to affidavit to check dissident
With the notification for the ensuing panchayat election, lot of anxiety and activities can be seen amongst the intending candidates of various parties. Congress being the ruling party has the largest number of nomination seeking candidates which has put the party in a fix and so in order to put a check on possible dissident and opposition by members within the party as far as the party ticket is concerned, the party has come out with a unique formula to retain loyalty among its members. Each candidate seeking a ticket to contest the election from Congress has to file an Affidavit along with the application. The candidate have to furnish their full detail along with an oath that he or she will forever remain a loyal congress worker and offer their services for the upliftment of the party. Even if he or she fails to qualify for a party ticket, they will offer complete help and co-operation to the nominated candidate. They further have to take an oath never to contest against the nominated party candidate. Following this directive, a great rush has been observed among party ticket seekers to file affidavit.
It is to be mentioned that only congress party has adopted this policy of filing affidavit and it is unheard of in other parties like AGP and BJP. This year are there are more than five thousand probable candidates from the congress party for 102 gaon panchayats and seventeen Zilla Parishad Constituencies of Golaghat district.
