Gogoi will welcome investments from abroad

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is ready to help to Swedish, Swiss and Irish authorities if they evince keen interest to invest in Assam.

Mr Gogoi disclosed it to Deputy Chief Missions of the these three countries while they called on him recently at his office chamber.

The Chief Minister apprised these three people-- Deputy Chief Missions of Sweden, Switzerland and Ireland respectively Anderf Fjoberg, Olaf Kjelsen and Pat Bourne of the potential in tourism, hydroelectric power, solar energy, waterways, herbal medicine etc sectors of the state.

According to official sources here, World Bank and the Asian Development Bank have also shown interest in making investment in the State, Mr Gogoi informed them.

Me Gogoi was confident that his state would be able to attain self-sufficiency in the power sector in the next few years. Despite insurgency, agitations and strikes, frequent bandhs and natural disasters, among others, the State has been making bold strides ahead and registering development in all the fields, he said.

According to him, the Assam government had been able to contain the ULFA problem and the militant outfit had already lost its mass base.

This is why, the Government organised the Asian Car Rally with an aim at building economic relations with the South Asian countries. Also there is move to reopen the historic Stillwel Road, he informed .

The Deputy Chief Missions informed Mr Gogoi that for the first time they had been to the state and that they would visit Shillong, Kaziranga National Park etc places to familiarise themselves with the socio-economic diversity of the region.

Thats a remarkable statement by the CM. We should welcome all the business houses around the world. We have good resources, but at the same time we are lagging behind in human resource. We do not have enough engineers and management people in Assam. We are producing only 1% of engineers as compared to other developed states. and one more big concern is lack of school facilities, lack of infrastructure are main problem in Assam. Rest is fine. We need to work on this. We should also encourage people to become entrepreneur.
