Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi gave away the prestigious Sukapha Award to noted citizen and journalist Padma Borkotoky at a function at the Rabindra Bhawan in the evening.
Organised by the department of cultural affairs, minister for cultural affairs Gautom Bora and prominent historian Dr Jogen Phukan attended the function.
The news of Assam Day celebration also are coming from almost all districts--upper and central Assam disticts and Guwahati.
Asom Sahitya Sabha has also observed the Assam Day with a day long programme.

The All Assam Adivasi Students Association gives a 48 hour deadline for the government to clear the whereabouts of 32 protesters who they claim, have been missing from the violence spot on the Shameful Saturday. Earlier, the government asked for the list of those missing protesters to ascertain the veracity of their claim. Amid a watertight security arrangement, seventy five percent voters exercised their franchise in the first phase of polls in the North Cachar Hills district on Monday.
