Goalpara district bandh calls on June 7

The Goalpara district unit of All Rabha Students Union along with six other students organisation of the district have declared a series of agitation programme from June 7 in protest against the administration's failure of rescuing the two abducted teachers. The proposed agitation programme will include 24 hours Goalpara district bandh on June 7, protest rally at Agia on June 9, railway track blockade on June 14 and burning of effigies of Chief Minister, Education minister, Goalpara DC, Goalpara SP and Goalpara East MLA on June 16.


In a joint press release, the students organisations, which includes district units of ARSU, AASU, ABSU, AKRSU, AABYSF, HSU and AAGSU alleged that even after more than 20 days the district administration as well as government has completely failed in rescuing the headmaster Kameswar Rabha and ARSU activist Sarit Rabha, both of whom were abducted by suspected militant group from Dawagiri village under Agia police station on May 13. It may be noted here that on May 29 Goalpara Deputy Commissioner Pritam Saikia assured the agitators at Dudhnoi that the two abducted teacher would be rescued within seven days.

A 45 year old person was trampled to death by a wild tusker in the forest of Khekapara village near Dhupdhara in Goalpara district yesterday. The deceased has been identified as Prafulla Ray of Khekapara village. The incident came in the light today when some of local villagers found the dead body of the person in the jungle. According to family sources, Prafulla Ray went to the jungle for firewood yesterday, but he failed to return to home. Sensation prevails in Goalpara district when a 22 years old newly married woman committed suicide by burning herself with kerosene oil at her father's residence at Lela-Pukhuripara under Dudhnoi police station in Goalpara district on Friday morning. The deceased has been identified as Nibedita Rabha who was married last month to one Manoj Rabha of Amjonga in Dudhnoi. According to sources, Nibedita came to her father's residence on Thursday with her husband. But on Friday morning she committed suicide under mysterious circumstances since the reasons behind her step could not be made out. A powerful improvised explosive device (IED) was recovered by the Army on Saturday from Damra area bordering Assam-Meghalaya in Goalpara district. The IED, weighing around five kg. was recovered under a culvert on Damra-Mendipathar road at Habangiri village under Damra police outpost. The device was recovered after the Ninth Sikh Li Regiment of Indian Army camping at Damra, received an information about it. Two persons died and three others injured in a road mishap when a speeding truck hit another loaded truck parked on the roadside of NH37 at Daranggiri in Goalpara district on Saturday morning. Sources said that the truck (AR 09A/2853), heading towards Guwahati, hit another parked truck (WB 73B/8257) at around 4.00 am. The collision was so powerful that the parked truck was turned over roadside and the other truck hit a house neasrby the spot. One of the deceased was identified as Atowar Rahman, the driver of the parked truck, but the other is yet to be identified. Two people were killed when a car slammed into a truck that was parked on NH 37 at Dudhnoi in Golapara district in the wee hours of Sunday. The accident occurred when a full speed maruti zen car (ML 05C-0088) moving from Shillong to Kokrajhar hit the back of the truck (AS 02-E-4798), which was parked in front of the Banabasi temple of Dudhnoi. The car driver and the truck handyman died on the spot, whereas three others who critically injured were first admitted to Dudhnoi hospital and later shifted to Goalpara civil hospital. Dibrugarh emerged champion in the All Assam U-17 Inter District Women Football Tournament defeating Baksa by a margin of 3-2 goals, played at Dhupdhara in Goalpara District on Sunday.
