21st July, Barpeta Mayhem has completed one year

21st July, 2010 - a memorable day for the Barpeta. Barpeta Mayhem has completed one year. On that very day Barpeta District AAMSU protest demanding the correct NRC up gradation and to stop the Pilot project. Last year about 150 people were injured in police lathi charge. Mentionable that in the name of that protest march of AAMSU a group of people had destroyed the properities of some business centres as well as the hoardings of the DC office, burnt some vehicles and attacked locals by the picketers. As a result of that mayhem four persons had to lose their lives and 150 others injured and have been suffering till date.


In this regard AAMSU has organized a memorial meet at the premises of H.K. Junior College, Khandakarpara (Sailta) on Thursday with a day long programme in the memory of the four departed soul and for the recovery of the seriously injured. An open session was also held under the Presidentship of Abdur Rahim Khan. Addressing in the meet Dr. Dilip Bora, Editor, Gana Adhikar said that no other party or organizations demanded the punishment of the 21st july involved persons till the arrest of Akhil Gogoi on June 22. After the arrest of Akhil Gogoi the people of Assam suddenly awoke and started demanding the arrest of culprit of 21st July Barpeta mayhem. Addressing in the meet MLA Chandan Sarkar said that the minorities of Assam had to sacrifice their lives by giving blood for the sake of their right. The minorities of Assam are very selfish. And wanted to become leader with the help of others. He added that he has been serving the people of Assam in this present time as he did earlier while he was in AAMSU.In this meet a memorandum was also submitted to Chandan Kr Sarkar as HImanta Biswa Sarma, minister could not be present here. was present as the Abdul Hi Nagari, Abdul Aziz, Abdul Samad Ahmed, Ali Akbar Mia, Chandan Kr. The situation in and around Bahari in Barpeta continues to remain tense for the consecutive four days even as a BJP called twelve hour Barpeta district bandh on Wednesday. Though the bandh was by and large peaceful, situation in Chenga in the district went almost out of control before noon and police had to fire several rounds of bullets and teargas shells in the air to disperse the bandh supporters.
