Repolling passes off peaceful

Amid tight security arrangement repolling passed off peacefully in Assam on Monday. Polling started on a brisk note at 7 inthe morning at altogether 6 booths in 3 constituencies.Bhawanipur alone has four booths. Rongia and Udalguri has one booth each. The Election Commission ordered repolling in these booths in view of some major allegations of anomalies.

Free textbooks distribution programme inaugurated at Raha

At a function held at Raha PWD ( Public Works Department ) Inspection Bunglaw on December 5, textbooks published by Assam State Textbook Production and Publication Corporation Limited under Sarba Siksha Abhijan Mission were distributed for the year 2012 among the schools of Raha block elementary education office.


The distribution of free textbooks was inaugurated by Piyush Hazarika , MLA, Raha . In his speech , the MLA said that he is determined and committed to develop the educational environment of Raha and will do everything required for it.


Lakshiprava Das Barua, Circle Officer, Raha presided over the meeting where a large number of resource teachers and block mission coordinations were present along with a number of conscious citizens of the locality.

Electronic media can't stop one's love for books: Laxminandan Bora

"As we need food to strengthen our body so we need to study books to develop our thinking. A book is the best media to gain knowledge. The expansion of electronic media can't stop one's love from reading books"-- inauguarting the Nagaon Book Fair 2007 the former President of Axom Sahitya Sabha, Laxminandan Bora said this on December 22 at Nehrubali. The meeting was presided over by Rockybull Hussain, Minister for Forest, Tourism etc. & president of the book fair where Mahim Bora, former president of Axom Sahitya Sabha and creator of "Kathanibaree Ghat" occupied the chair of Chief guest.

On December 23 a drawing competition was held where a large number of school children took part. Later on at 2pm, a seminer was held where Harekrishna Deka gave a talk on 'Terrorism and Civil Society.Today , a poets' meet was held and it was conducted by Anubhav Tulsi.

On December 25, a seminar on the topic 'Trend in Contemporary Assamese Poetry' will be held. Hirendra Nath Dutta will be the Chief speaker and Nilamoni Phukan will be the Chief guest.On December 26, Mukut Bhuyan will conduct a Children's Day. On December 27, a seminar will be held on the topic 'Globalisation and Asomiya Sanskriti' where Atulananda Goswami will be the speaker and Dr Madan Sharma will act as Chief speaker. On December 28, Dulal Bora will conduct a cultural function.

Free Health Camp at Pamohi

A free fealth check-up and awareness camp was held December 30 at Parijat Academy, Pamohi, Guwahati. A team of about ten doctors comprising Dr Amiya Kumar Sarma, Heart Specialist and CMO of Guwahati Refinery Hospital, Dr Khaklary, Adnl Medical Officer of Guwahati Refinery and about ten Paramedical staff attended the camp. The camp helped the local people by providing free treatment of blood sugar (diabetes), gaestro problems, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases etc. Free dlood sugar tests, blood pressure measurement, etc. of the patients were done along with free medicines to the patients. Around hundred people attended the camp.

The camp was organised by People’s Friend Foundation in association with Indian Oil Marketing Division.
