AASU, 24 other bodies stage dharna in dehi

Led by AASU 25 organisations staged dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Thursday demanding steps to upgrade Assam NRC, check flood and erosion, stop big dams, save Majuli, resolving interstate border problem and total implementation of Assam Accord. The 25 organisations are All Assam Students’ Union, All Assam Tribal Sangha, All Assam Tribal Youth League, Mising Mimag Kebang, All Rabha Students’ Union, All Mising Students’ Union (T.M.P.K.), All Tiwa Students’ Union, Tiwa Yuva Chatra Parishad, All Tai Ahom Students’ Union, All Dimasa Students’ Union, Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association, All Koch-Rajbanshi Students’ Union, All Assam Motok Yuva Chatra Sanmilan, All Assam Moran Students’ Union, All Assam Deori Students’ Union, Karbi Students’ Association (K.S.A.), All Adibashi Students’ Association, All Assam Chutia Students’ Union, All Assam Gurkha Students’ Union, All Assam Sonowal Kachari Students’ Union, All Assam Sarania Kachari Students’ Union, All Assam Modahi Students’ Union, Karbi Students’ Union (K.S.U.), N. C. Hills Indigenous Students’ Union and All Assam Karbi Students’ Union.

Blood donation camp begins at GMCH

A week long blood donation camp begins at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Guwahati-32 today (8 May 2015). Initiated by the office of GMCH Superintendent, the camp is open for every conscious and responsible citizens. Various civil society and other organizations have been invited to join and donate blood in the camp (till 14 May) during the working hours.

Media persons are also requested to attend the program and join in the mission to make the common people aware of the importance of blood domination. Interested journalists and other media employees across the region are requested to contact GMCH Superintendent Dr Ramen Talukder (Ph. 0361 2529457) for more details.

Wild elephants kill two more in Udalguri

One Krishna Das (34) son of late Suthu Das of Khoira jungle village under Paneri Police Station was killed by wild elephant at Khoira jungle at 10 PM on October 24. In a separate incident another Lorentus Minj (64),head cook of the Manager of Nonaipar TE under Dimakuchi Police Station was trampled to death at section No. 16 in Nonaipar TE at around 9.30 PM on the same night.Both the killed persons were returning home after days work. Agitated villagers blocked the MB road in front of Paneri PS in the morning of October 25 demanding immediate payment of compensation to the victims.

Udalguri Police launch crackdown on extortionists

Udalguri Police have reportedly launched a crackdown in the district against rampant "extortion by NDFB (S) cadres based on numerous complaints by buisiness man,VCDC chairman,contractors. Extortion notes are being served to reputed personalities which gave gripped a sense of fear and insecurity among the people.

When contacted, police sources said that they have launched a crackdown on extortionist groups in the district and as a follow up of their operation, a police team apprehended one at Hahini gaon under Tangla PS on Thursday , few kilometers away from Tangla town. Police said two extortionist came on bike to collect the amount demanded to Bhutiachang VCDC chairman of Udalguri while one fled away one of the accused fired at the police following which the police on fired one shot which hit on the waist of the cadre while trying to runaway. The injured was later taken to Tangla CHC hospital and referred to GMCH for treatment, police said.

Reportedly the accused NDFB (S) cadre has been identified as one Subun Basumatari (22) alias Geraila S/O Ajay Basumatari a inhabitant of Phaisia village under Harisinga PS of Udalguri. A 7.65mm pistol, three rounds of live ammunition and a mobile handset were recovered from his possesion.

Meanwhile a case has been registered at Panery PS vide 67/16 under various sections of IPC.
