AGP urges to stop construction of dams till the assembly committee report


In protest against the on going constuction work of big dam's in various places in the state, the Asom Yuba Parishad, the youth wing of the main opposition party Asom Gana Parishad(AGP) staged a sit-in-demo in front of the Raj Bhavan here on Friday.


Talking to the press, the President of the party Chandramohan Patowary has demanded the government to put a fullstop the on going construction works of the dams till the assembly committee, which was formed to asses the downstream impact, submits its report.He alleged that the Tarun Gogoi led state government was not paying any heed to the repeated appeals made by several organisations and local peoples of the dam construction site. Former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, party's working prsident Phani Bhushan Chowdhry, Ramendra Narayan Kalita and other senior leaders of the party also were present in the sit-in-demo.
