Workshop on Community Radio ends

A six day technical training cum workshop on Community Radio was organized jointly by Indira Gandhi National Open University and Panos South Asia in collaboration with Centre for Mass Communication and Journalism (CMCJ) Cotton College from 25th to 30th June. The session gave an introduction to the concept of Community Radio (CR), content for CR Community need assessment, research, production cycle, essential technology for production and demystifying technology. In hand practice on recording, editing and mixing were part of this extensive programme. Resource persons and experts from various fields Bandana Mukhopadhyay, consultant of IGNOU, N Ramakrishna , Director Idiosync, Hemant Babu Head Nomad, Sajan Venniyoor , India Representative DEUTSCHE-WELLE, Xonzoi Barbora Regional Manager, Media and Conflict Panos, Kazimmuddin Ahmed Assistant Programme Manager Panos South Africa , Danny Geeverghese, Project Officer Panos South Africa were associated in the Workshop. Participants from Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Assam came forward to take this opportunity for establishment of CR’s in the North Eastern region. As a part of the workshop the participants went to the field practicing and produced a number of diverse Audio programmes Dr. A. H. Guha, Regional Director IGNOU Shillong and Dr Indra Kumar Bhattacharyya, Principal of Cotton College, Satyendra Kumar Choudhary, coordinator of EDC, Cotton College were the Chief guests of the Valedictory sessions. Bandana Mukhopadhyay, Kazimuddin Ahmed expressed that the workshop will be a great help to the region to utilize the airwaves for the benefit of communities and to disseminate the power of information at all spheres.

Community Media is about democratisation of media. It is a beautiful concept. Nice to know of a workshop organised in this direction.

Citizen Journalism (CJ) and application of new media technology are the new age of communicating issues that impact lives of people on a daily basis. This message on plural and a more democratic media emerged out of a series of recently concluded CJ training workshops. A Technical Training Workshop on Community Radio is being held in North East Diocesan Social Forum (NEDSF) and Cotton College from June 25 to 30. The workshop is being organized by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and PANOS South Asia. The inauguration of the workshop was held at NEDSF which was inaugurated by Dr. A.S.
