Guwahati: A special summer session of Assam Assembly is starting on Monday to take a grant on supplementary demands. This session is likely to abolish colonial Assam Police Act-1861 by replacing a new law. A bill will be placed before the House within this session.
Assam Police Act is too old to act with complex crime and criminology of present time. Meanwhile, Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon district Muslim Saranarthy Committee had threatened to commit mass suicide in front of Capital Complex on Monday to protest against government's discrimination to all refugees taking shelter at Bordhup Refugee camp since 1994. There are 2442 inmates of 350 families in that relief camp." 201 of us will commit suicide to demand free ration for all inmates and proper education facility to 101 children of these people"said President Abdul Waheb Mollah in a press statement.
Also, Sodou Deuri Nari Sangram Samity has vowed to hold a semi nude protest against the Government's unfairness to Deuri Autonomous District Council on the same day. Announcing this protest President Smritijyoti Deuri and Secretary Meenu Deuri said.' We will not allow our council to turn into a rampant corruption ground for the opportunist. Government must initiate action and remove those corrupt officials.'
