Unavoidable situation at Barpeta regarding the training of presiding officer
An unavoidable situation arose at Barpeta regarding the training of the presiding officers and polling officers to maintain no.6 Barpeta Lok sabha constituency According to report said that the polling and presiding officers training was held in 7 centres at Barpeta today. In the other centres the training was held timely, but no trainers had reached at Barpeta JRP girls’ high school until 11am, whereas all the election appointed presiding reached there in proper time. At this the appointed presiding officers were enraged and staged dharna in front of DC office with slogans. Though the DC Phanidhar Kalita and ADC P.K.Bhagawati came to console them, they did not care for it and when they were out of control the superintendent of police, Barpeta Debajyoti Mukharjee had to come to control the enraged officers. The demonstrators also complained that they were not even given foods or training fees. Mentionable that when some of the protestor came, at that time some others taking their training.

The timber smuggling business of Barpeta is not a new matter. Rampant timber smuggling is going on. Woods have been illegally transported during the early morning. But the forest department and the police of Barpeta turned deaf ear on this matter. In the wee hours of September 18 an over-loaded truck (No. AS-01-BC-5676) containing illegal timbers, which is about to cross the Dakshin Hati-Rayatpara connecting bridge (R. P. Road), met an accident. The people of that area had seized the truck and handed over to police. This truck was coming from Meghalaya for one timber smuggler Rahman of Mandia.
