The British Council (Kolkata) and Aaranyak, an active environment organization of Northeast India have joined hands to organize a two-day workshop on environmental journalism for the media persons of Guwahati in the second week of March. The workshop, designed to facilitate two batches of journalists (twenty in a batch) in two days, will be held at IIBM at Khanapra on March 9 (2 p.m. to 5 p.m.) and March 10 (9-30a.m to 12-30 p.m.). Guwahati Press Club has also extended support for the programme.
Rob Edwards (55) will be the main resource person for the workshop. A free-lance, self-employed journalist specialising in environmental issues for more than 25 years, Rob was educated at Watford Boys Grammar School and Jesus College, Cambridge (MA, Eng. Lit.), and is based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Since 1981 he has written for a wide range of British publications, including The Guardian, The Observer, The Sunday Times, Scotland on Sunday, The Scotsman, New Statesman and The Mail on Sunday.
More over, he has been a regular correspondent for New Scientist since 1994 and the Environment Editor of The Sunday Herald since 1999. He has also produced over a dozen documentaries and news items for Channel Four television, co-authored three books on nuclear power and won a number of journalism awards.
Interested media persons are requested to contact the office of Guwahati Press Club at working hour on or before February 28. Mentionable that Aaranyak has agreed to arrange vehicles for the benefit of the participating journalists from the press club to the venue for both the days.
