The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Guwahati Off-Campus celebrated its 10th Convocation ceremony on June 23, 2023. The event was held at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre Auditorium, Guwahati and was graced by the presence of Prof. Manorama Sharma, Professor (Retd.), Dept. of History, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), who served as the Chief Guest. The Director of the Institute, Prof. Shalini Bharat and Officiating Registrar, Prof. Sasmita Palo were also present at the ceremony.
During the convocation ceremony, 154 students who graduated in the year 2023 were awarded their degrees. One student was conferred with a PhD degree in Social Sciences while 112 students obtained their MA and MASW degrees in different programmes offered at the Off-Campus. Additionally, 41 students obtained the BA degree in Social Sciences (BASS).
The Chairman of the Governing Board of TISS, Mr. Vijay Singh, congratulated the graduating students for the progress they have made in terms of capabilities and encouraged them to continue to re-imagine the future.
The Chief Guest of the event, Prof. Manorama Sharma, addressed the young social scientists about to embark on careers in various sectors. She encouraged them to use their degrees to engage with society and to bring about fundamental changes. She also reminded the graduates of the importance of understanding gender equality and urged them to carry this knowledge to their communities.
The convocation ceremony ended with the felicitation of the Chief Guest and a vote of thanks from the Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Jagannath Ambagudia.
Overall, the 10th Convocation ceremony of TISS, Guwahati provided an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the graduating students and to remind them of the role they can play in shaping a better future for society.
