KOKRAJHAR: Normal transport remained heavily disrupted for three hour from 9 am morning when the All Santhal Students Union(ASSU) staged 6-hours national highway blockade at Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar and Shyamtaibari in Chirang districts along the 31C National Highway in support of early solution of various issues on Friday.
With playcards, hundreds of students blocked the vital roads demanding Scheduled Tribes (ST) status, provide land pattas to the Santhali peoples, teachers appointment in Santhali schools etc.
Several hundred activists and Santhali peoples with banner, placards sate on the highway to blockade the national highways to put pressure the government for solving the issue and demands of the Santhali communities. The agitators shouted slogans demanding early solution to the issue and demands of the Santhali communities in the state. Huge truck and public buses were stranded at various places due to the blockade.
Passengers and vehicular movement was saw disruption of traffic commuincatio in their travelling for the blockade.
The students union later lifted the blockade by 12 noon after three hour of the scheduled six hour blockade agitation following an assurance received from district administration paving the way to take necessary step over the agitational issue and demands, which stated in the memorandum submitted to Chief Minister of Assam through Deputy Commissioner, Chirang. The blockade was started from 9 am.
