NEW DELHI: Caught in a barrage of criticism from the central leadership Nagalandstate BJP has pulled out of the joint statement signed to boycott the upcoming assembly polls slated for February 27.
The state party leadership has further suspended executive member Kheto Semaparty charging him with signing the joint declaration without being authorized by the leadership.
The fresh development took place on Tuesday when central leader and state election in charge Kiren Rijiju talked to the state leadership not to go with the civil society organizations that would disallow the polls to take place. Talking to www.assamtimes.org, state BJP leaders said only the central leadership would take up the issue. "Right now we can't say yes or no. This is for the central leadership to decide. We are prepared for the polls since holding polls is a constitutional duty," said a senior party leader in New Delhi.
He said," the entire picture will emerge clear in a day or two. If we are allowed to contest we would do it and win. If disallowed we would not."
All major political parties at a meeting on Monday signed a joint statement against the upcoming polls without resolving the decade old Naga problem.
