Shooters as rhino poachers: Mizo youths held in Kohima

Now Kaziranga National Park has become a destination for a section of skilled shooters from outside deployed in rhino poaching.

These stunning revelations have surfaced when Nagaon police captured three poachers in Kohima on Friday three days after they vanished from Hoiborgaon traffic point leaving the policemen to check the vehicle.

Acting on a tip off, a team of Nagaon police led by a deputy superintendent of police reached Kohima and launched a search operation with the help of Assam Rifles where the three poachers were captured.

During interrogation, they revealed that they were shooters and were on the way to strike in the world heritage site.

As they managed to escape the policemen on the traffic checking duty, they boarded on a night super to Kohima a day before being arrested.

A local court in Nagaon remanded the Mizo trio to five days police custody for interrogation where more startling revelations are expected to surface which would help the authority sternly deal with the poachers.

They were identified as Thangsolian and Prithiason from Manipur and Lal Saina from Mizoram--all Mizo youths who are skilled shooters deployed by the poaching network.

Notably, a traffic policeman posted at Haiborgaon asked a vehicle to halt where three people were traveling from Guwahati side. When asked about the car registration and licence, they could not convince the police who started checking the four wheelers.

As the police constables were busy with checking the driver along with the two passengers fled from the spot.

Later, a huge cache of arms, ammonition, brown sugar, magazine, sharp weapons were recovered from inside the vehicle.
